We have settled in nicely into our new home! There are still a bunch of boxes in the garage to unpack, and there are odds & ends & cleaning to do at our old apartment. We turn in keys to the old place this weekend. This house is so perfect for us! The kids are enjoying their first backyard, doing sidewalk chalk & running around everywhere. Marissa can even scoot back & forth on her skateboard/scooter, there's so much room. Jim's enjoying putting in new plants & loving the big kitchen. I love our jacuzzi tub in our bathroom! I can end my day with a magazine & a cocktail in our big bubbly tub. Oh, and Jessie gets her own room! She used to sleep with us, and not very well. Now she's sleeping better! Not quite though the night yet, but getting there (slowly). Ahhh it's all good. I'll post some pics soon. Hope anyone reading this is happy, healthy & enjoying life! :-)

Marissa's Hip Hop Dress Rehearsal

We were at the Barclay Theater UCI yesterday for Marissa's dress rehearsal.. she takes hip hop at Pacific Dance Academy and loves it! She practices all the time for family and friends. She performs this weekend. The song for her performance is "Hasta La Vista" from Disney's Camp Rock, one of Marissa's favorite movies!

Crystal Cove - our new favorite beach!

Of all the years we've been in Orange County, for some reason we have never been to Crystal Cove State Beach! Until last weekend.. it was a gorgeous day too. It's this cozy little beach with cottages you can rent ... we are staying there in September. The cottages book months in advance. You have to go online the first of every month and they get booked up pretty quick.

Well, about this beach... it's a cute little beach with a restaurant and full bar. You can't bring alcohol to this beach since it's a state beach, but it's nice to have access to that bar if you feel like a cold one. The drinks start at $9.00 so you might want to bring a flask LOL... Parking is $10.00 but if you dine at the restaurant or grab a drink, you can get parking validated. I love little spots like this, that isn't too crowded. At least on this day it wasn't. I felt like we were in a secret spot or something, it was so great! This place had a great vibe too.

It's a 10 minute walk from the parking lot, or you can take a shuttle comes by every few minutes. The walk is a fun little journey though. I suggest the walk... the trail is fun and you go through a tunnel which has pretty paintings on the walls.

And the waves were nice too! Jim was able to go out and body whomp a bit.. he had a blast. The kids played for a long time in the sand and along the shore. They just love the beach!

We are so going back to this beach for more family fun!

Marissa and I had some mommy-daughter time at the theater yesterday. We saw 12 Dancing Princess at Broadway on Tour in Santa Ana. It's a children's theater where we enjoy talented kids perform. It's a lot of fun! Thanks for taking us, Mary & Geneva!

Marissa's 7th Birthday

Marissa had so much fun with her BFF's at Justice! All she wanted was to spend the day with her friend Brianna and cousins Caroline, Marielle and Gabby. They enjoyed getting their hair, makeup and nails done... then they shopped for goodies, had a fashion show and played dance games. After singing "Happy Birthday" to Marissa, they had lunch and red velvet cupcakes at Johnny Rockets. Meanwhile, Jim was getting Marissa's big girl room ready... no more princess bedding! All pink and black rockin' things! She really enjoyed her birthday celebration with her friends and cousins.

I completed my Certified Sandals Specialist course today! I am now an official Sandals and Beaches travel agent! December is upon and and the days seem to be flying past at an uncontrollable speed! Our baby girl is almost one, we just can't believe it! Just last year I was on very strict bed rest, at home AND in the hospital for several weeks. It was a miserable time... and a scary one, not knowing how the end result of the pregnancy would turn out. Thankfully, it all worked out and we have a healthy happy baby with more energy than I can take! Hope everyone is well... drop us a line sometime!

I'm feeling a little better today... but this cold has turned into a cough and my voice is still very scratchy. Now Jessie has a runny nose! It's the worst when we are not well... hopefully we'll be able to kick this cold in a couple of more days.

Nightmare at the pumpkin patch

We were so excited to go to the pumpkin patch on Friday Oct. 10th. We waited for Jim to get off work and decided to visit the pumpkin patch on Jeffrey and Walnut near the 5 freeway... Every year we buy tickets for the various attractions. Marissa picked tickets for the big inflatable slide, the little boat shaped cars that hang from chains and go around in circles, and her favorite -- the pony rides. Every year since Marissa was 3 years old, she'd go on the pony rides at least once a year. We even went horse back riding in Bryce Canyon, Utah during a camping trip and that was so much fun!

But this year would be the first bad experience we've ever had with the pony rides...

We watched Marissa smile and wave at us and she rode the pony around the circle, just like we have every year... the woman who was in charge of the animals told her employee to "fix it" because Marissa was sort of leaning to the side. We didn't think much of it at the time. The guy adjusted her and the pony continued around the circle. Everything seemed fine.

I have Jessie strapped on me in the Bjorn, facing forward so she can watch her sister on the the pony. I look away for a second, look back at Marissa... and she is HANGING UPSIDE DOWN ON HER HORSE SCREAMING AND CRYING FOR HELP. The employee rushes to pick her up, she is still attached to the horse so now she is in a horizontal position, and a natural response if something were dangling on a horse.. THE HORSE IS BUCKING AND IRRITATED.

Jim rushes to help the employee hold Marissa while they try to unbuckle Marissa's strap. I scream the loudest horror movie type scream at the top of my lungs, hysterically. Jessie is crying, unaware of what is going on. Oh my God, I don't think I have ever been more afraid, ever. I am imagining Marissa falling to the ground and getting trampled by this horse, resulting in the un-thinkable. They could not get her away from the horse fast enough. It was the longest few seconds of my life.

Finally, they get her away from the horse... I'm already on the phone calling 911 on my cell phone, not knowing if Marissa sustained any injuries.

Thankfully, Marissa was not harmed. She was just horrified. Mommy and Daddy too. The firemen and paramedics arrive a few minutes later. After we do a full inspection and question Marissa if she's okay, we realize with MUCH RELIEF that she is fine. We tell the paramedics she's fine and they briefly interview her and tell us that she looks okay to go home with us.

That lady who was in charge of the horses kept her distance, would not look at us, and I'm sure was very nervous that we would place blame on her. Something went really wrong that night, and I'm certain something was not fastened properly. We were just thankful that Marissa was not harmed.

Marissa has been on sooo many pony rides and rode a good size horse on a trail at Bryce Canyon with no seat belt! She WAS comfortable on horses, I'm not going to push her to ride for a while. We know it wasn't the horse's fault, so maybe one day she'll ride again.

We just don't trust those pony rides at the pumpkin patch anymore. After looking at past photos for the rides, there is a difference in the straps and seat belt systems for the ponies. So just ALWAYS CHECK and make sure an employee is walking the ponies around and is nearby all the time!!!

All I can say is, we had a lot to be thankful for that night. Before Marissa went to bed, she said "I love Jesus, he's great." A little angel was on her shoulder watching after her for sure!

Valentine's Day

We had a great Valentine's Day yesterday! I was one of the helper moms in Marissa's class for their Valentine's Party. It was so cute watching all the kids deliver valentine cards into their classmates' bags. I remember how fun Valentine's Day was in school. Marissa will remember these days forever!

Jim made me a fantastic dinner at home last night... candle lit dinner with music, giant Alaskan king crab legs, spinach salad with homemade vinegarette, a little wine.. oh and the dessert?! Flaming bananas a la Wendt over vanilla ice cream! So yummy with the caramelized bananas. Lucky Jim didn't lose his eyebrows - that flame was high! I felt like I was in a fancy restaurant. It's always like that when he cooks a special meal. I'm a lucky girl to have such a fabulous chef and wonderful husband!

I will blog more when I can.. I haven't blogged since my days in the hospital! Wow, time sure does fly. After a complicated pregnancy, several bleeds during the pregnancy, bed rest at home and in the hospital for 5 weeks, and a crazy surgery, everything turned out fine. The baby was born at 37 weeks completely healthy. Our baby Jessie is already 2 months old and we are enjoying life at home as a complete family! Marissa is getting ready for Valentine's Day and writing out all of her classmates' Vday cards as I type. Today is my 38th birthday. Jim has been in Orlando on a business trip & returns tomorrow. My parents are with Auntie Elisa, Uncle Rey & Auntie Linda (who are visiting us from the Philippines) on a road trip to Vegas & are sight seeing at Bryce Canyon, Zion, Grand Canyon, etc. Gunnar is almost 10 months old and is such a cutie. Adam was not unemployed for long (he is in construction and was laid off a couple of weeks ago). He starts a new job on Monday - whew. Adrianne survived a big layoff at her work - whew. We are all doing great!

A cute therapy dog came to visit today... what a cute sweet dog! My
new favorite breed - she's a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel. This
doggie works 2 hours a day, visiting patients and even had a photo

Looks like I'll be staying in the hospital for a while...I had another bleed late Sunday. We have to keep the baby in as long as possible to grow & develop. Our goal is to keep her in until 36 weeks (I'm at 29 weeks this Friday) or she'll have to come out earlier in an emergency situation. Either way, I'm in here for a while longer. On Friday afternoon, I noticed a little blood so I called the doctor and was admitted to Hoag Hospital for 2 days for monitoring. Strict hospital bed rest, IV, steroid shots to develop the baby's lungs (in case we had to deliver a preemie), and monitoring around the clock! Whew... what a scare. We are relieved that the bleeding has stopped and happy I was allowed to go home Sunday afternoon.

For the next 14 weeks, it is STRICT bed rest for me! I'll be on the computer on occasion, mostly on the couch or in bed! On more bleed and the doctors will keep me in the hospital for the rest of the pregnancy!

Baby & Me Update

This week I found out from my doctor that I have placenta previa. I have been put on bed rest for the remainder of my pregnancy! So BORING on the couch!!! But I have to take extra care for baby and me. I'm getting lots of help from family. My parents help get Marissa to school & pick her up too. I can't carry Gunnar in the carrier down 3 flights of stairs into the car & lift the carrier into his stroller anymore. So he's a homebody like me for now! He sleeps a lot and is content sitting on the couch or floor with me, so we won't consider at home help until he gets mobile. If he were crawling or walking around I'd be in big trouble!

What do I do all day? Well... I'm pretty caught up on all my reality shows, etc. on the DVR. I'm also an IT recruiter, so I surf the job boards on the internet, make calls & sent emails to potential candidates. Hopefully I can make some money while on the couch! LOL! I also would love to catch up on my family movie edits, photo albums, scrapbooking, etc. We'll see...

Marissa's new zed cards are done. They are with her agent. She's on Actors Access and LA Casting. We're going to have to be a little picky about what auditions we go to. The casting studio would have to have ample parking. We can get out to LA maybe once a month. If Marissa gets a lot of calls, will deal with that problem later - that would be a good problem to have! :-)

Jim has been so helpful, helping out every evening, my wonderful chef... and I get belly cream and prenatals every night! Although it is super boring all day on the couch, at least I'm getting the rest I need and I have baby Gunnar to keep me company while Marissa is in school. And it's so nice to have family nearby to help out.

Oh, and we had to cancel our trip to Cancun! We were going to leave on Sept. 27th but now we will wait until April 2008. At least when we go I can actually enjoy some cocktails and get on the wave runner! Yeah!
